General opinions on it.

Personally I Hate all of it with the exception of probably 2 bands.

I really Hate the fucking name in general. I know it's really immature and all, but seriously that name is just... something inspires me to go 'UGGGGH'.

As for the bands... i've never liked Meshuggah at all, and a lot of the bands that have been influenced by them i've never been fully receptive to either. I get the point of Meshuggah, but they're absolutely awful at being able to Craft distinctive riffs in general.

So basically I agree with you. I can see a band that could step up and really use the style to create some really interesting music, but as it is, i'm not a fan at all.

I found some of Meshuggah's older stuff to be at least tolerable, but now it is just unlistenable.

If you are wondering, this is the kind of thing that I find actually uses "djent" in a way that isn't irritating as hell. Most likely because it's more ambient than harsh.

Agreed. Meshuggah are no good. Although i havent gone into djent in depth, but ive got some Tesseract and Periphery to listen. We'll see how they go. . .

This is djent music at it's purest form (just the music)... this should give you a good idea of what djent is like and all about 0

Shit's awful. Yes, even that band. I don't understand why they would base the whole genre around a guitar tone that isn't even that cool. Sure, the riffs are MUSICALLY progressive, but they sound boring as hell. Then there's bands like Periphery that throw those whiny-ass vocals over the stuff, which I will admit relieves the boredom but it also introduces a whole new set of problems.

Meshuggah is probably the most tolerable out of any of the bands since they did it loooong before it became a trend or even an established "thing" so a lot of their music doesn't really fit into the image the genre has been given. Still, though, I'd never listen to Meshuggah willingly.

EDIT: listened to the Modern Day Babylon song...how the Hell do you headbang to this stuff? Maybe I just don't like polyrhythms or whatever the Hell the band was doing, but I was like "hey maybe this is-what the fuck just hap-okay FUCK STOP DOING THAT What The Fuck GUYS"

never heard of this stuff... i guess this is what the kids are into these days. so it's essentially progressive/Technical Groovecore? i ended up buying Meshuggah's album Chaosphere a few years ago... listened to it maybe twice before i sold it to a record store0

Guys, really, explain me what djet is. Sounds Middle-Eastern but what is it exactly?

djent is supposed to be an onomatopoeia for the guitar tone. Listen to the first bit of "Icarus Lives" by Periphery to see what I mean.

There's really not many restrictions outside of that.
